After decades of independence, the Memphis football program competed in Conference USA until 2013. From 1995 to 2013, Memphis was a member of Conference USA. He apparently had more resources than most of the other WFL team owners. They were led by third-year head coach Mike Norvell. Then the football team joined the American Athletic Conference. The Memphis Southmen were a franchise in the World Football League which operated in 1974 and 1975. Still, there were fans that wouldn't quit: a lawsuit, Mid-South Grizzlies v.
