Ravaged by illness, the rejection of the Geneva Window, and the effects of medication, Clarke is visited by friends, both real and imaginary. But on a psychologically disturbing level, Harry’s behavior is a way of permitting him to be who he wants, and perhaps, who he was born to be. Masks are mandatory and hand sanitizer is everywhere. It surpassed everything I had hoped for.Attending “Harry Clarke,” at Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, Mass., was not only worth the wait, it reminded me of what I lost during the five months without  live theater. We will really miss our dear cousin. Because the characters in the play are so self-absorbed, there is more humor than tragedy in the play. But, if “Harry Clarke” is taken as an allegory about a society that believes what it wants to believe permitting people behave in a manner to achieve happiness by denying the truth of who they are – it does become tragic.Mark H. Dold  has offered many brilliant performances during his fifteen years acting at Barrington Stage – especially memorable was his portrayal of Alan Turing in “Breaking the Code.”    Never has he more deserved the standing ovation he received on opening night. In a post-performance speech from the stage he graciously deflected the praise, giving credit for his performance to the director Julianne Boyd, who did a marvelous job keeping the piece fluid, visually interesting and ratcheting tensions as Harry grows bolder and bolder in his behavior. However, as Dold pointed out,  the praise for Boyd was especially deserved for her tenacity and determination to get “Harry Clarke” on stage. It and the Berkshire Theatre Group’s production musical “Godspell,’ also taking place in Pittsfield, are the only live productions taking place in the entire country. The rules and regulations from state and regional governments were stringent, as were the almost suffocating guidelines enforced by Actors’ Equity. Not even street and motorcycle noises that could be heard disturbed the show.

Harry Clarke

Where neither A, B or C is indicated beside window title, the stained glass window or panel was designed and executed fully by Harry Clarke.Internationally the name of Harry Clarke is synonymous with quality craftsmanship and imaginative genius in his stained glass work.
(A): Harry Clarke was actively involved in part of the window’s execution, the rest being executed under his supervision in his Studio (B): The window was initially conceived by Harry Clarke but executed by the Studio under his close supervision (C): The window was designed by Harry Clarke. Harry Clarke, Irish stained-glass artist and illustrator, is confined to a Swiss sanatorium, suffering from Tuberculosis, far from his family and his work in the Studios in Dublin. Raymond was as full of life as ever and it was wonderful to spend an afternoon with him in St. Joseph’s Church, Terenure where he was as excited as a child at Christmas to once again discuss the beauty and uniqueness of Clarke’s windows. Harry Clarke: Pos: HB-DB, Career: 74 G, 24 TD, 1711 Yds, 4.4 Y/A, All-Pro(1st), 2xProBowl, Bears/Dons/.. 1940-1948, born MD 1916, died 2005 "Harry Clarke is the alter ego of an insecure Midwestern straggler named Philip Brugglestein, who works as a barista in New York. “Harry Clarke” is an excellent theater experience. It had a distinctly creepy feel to it and is essentially about a shy man, Philip Bruggelstein who takes on a whole different persona when he starts talking in a British accent. His use of deep rich colours, his delicate depiction of beautiful elongated figures with their finely carved features and deep expressive eyes, is indeed magical to behold. Harry Clarke was an Irish stained-glass artist and book illustrator. He produced more than 130 stained glass windows windows, he and his brother Walter having taken over his father's studio after his death in 1921. This is a play that probes the needs and weaknesses of many people who seem to have everything, but in essence have nothing. But having nothing is the heart of “Harry Clarke.”   Harry is a character who acts in a way to please and charm the person he is with.
