However, Eleven Minutes was really disappointing especially when Coelho referenced his other work (The Alchamist) within the story, it came off as arrogant. Directed by Jerzy Skolimowski. I found myself caught up in Maria's story right away though. I don't read Portugese.Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2013.I love this book so much that I've literally given it to all of my friends.Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2017.Amazing book with similar principles as The Alchemist, but from the insight of a motivated prostitute. The gains and losees, pains and experiences are those of every person, just with greater emphasis and intensity in the story. Coelho says his story was born when a prostitute named Maria (or Sonia) approached him and asked if he knew what it was like to live without love. The story depicts a woman's fall into prostitution as a means of saving her pride after making some poor life choices. It was a failed effort to do something new.Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2010.Exceptionally powerful story - well told. Wonderful hearing how a young girl ends up in such a profession, the thoughts on it from a worldly view, and an overall good read. The allegorical angles came at me much later in the book. That's when I had to slow down - to step back and think about what the story meant; it began to have deeper meanings, layer upon layer.Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019,By the other reviews and the description, you already get the sense of what the book is about. Eleven Minutes is the story of Maria, a young girl from a Brazilian village, whose first innocent brushes with love leave her heartbroken. A chance meeting in Rio takes her to Geneva, where she dreams of finding fame and fortune. At a tender age, she becomes convinced that she will never find true love, instead believing that "love is a terrible thing that will make you suffer. In exploring herself, starting as a teen and up through her 23rd year, the protagonist, Maria, gains, loses and regains the ability to love both emotionally and physically.
Recently, I got to read this book as one of my friend suggested to read Paulo writings. Though this book was famous back then, I just got a hold of the copy now. These minutes turn out to be crucial for their ultimate fate.
Not because I was desperate to know what happens but because I wanted to be done with it! (Regent Releasing),Notable Video Game Releases: New and Upcoming.A skillfully crafted, highly entertaining documentary.Charming and unexpectedly perceptive portrait cum procedural proves the DIY-authentic corrective to Unzipped, a warts-and-all chronicle of McCarroll’s yearlong preparation for his inaugural show at New York Fashion Week.Though this is the rare documentary that admirably admits recording "reality" on film actually shapes how people behave under the camera's gaze, I think Eleven Minutes is going to appeal mostly to hard-core fashionistas.Doesn't measure up to the depth of detail, let alone the drama, of "Unzipped," the 1995 documentary about Isaac Mizrahi.
